How this is paid for
It is built and paid for by one person. The costs are ordinary and constant: servers, map tiles, and the pipeline that reads published menus and keeps prices current.
There is no investor and no cafe paying for placement. That is the whole reason the rankings can be trusted, and it is also why the running costs land in one place.

Pro is the ongoing version of the same thing, and it gives you something back: price-drop alerts on the cafes you save, and a map with no ads. Pricing is not public yet. If you would rather wait for that than send a one-off, that is completely fine.
What it does not buy
Nothing about the data changes. Supporting the project does not hide ads for other people, does not move any cafe up a list, and does not give you a different price to everyone else.
A cafe cannot pay to change its price or its position either. Organic rankings are not for sale, and any paid placement is labelled and never changes where a venue ranks.
