What we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it.

Last updated 28 July 2026

The short version

You can use most of Coffee Near Me without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. Browsing the map, reading prices and using the directory need no sign-in.

We do not sell your data. We do not run third-party ad networks inside the app. We collect the least we can get away with while still keeping the price data honest.

What we collect

If you sign in. Sign-in is handled by Supabase Auth, using either a Google account or an emailed magic link. We hold your email address and a user id. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address and basic profile details from Google; we do not receive your Google password.

What you do in the app. Cafes you save, the order you put them in, cafes you swipe past or keep, prices you submit or confirm, cafes you report as wrong or closed, and any price alerts you set. These are stored against your user id because the features do not work otherwise.

What you send us. Feedback you submit, and a reply address if you give one. Waitlist sign-ups store your email address and, where present, the campaign parameters in the link you arrived through.

A keyed hash of your IP address. When you submit a price, report a cafe, send feedback or join the waitlist, we store a one-way keyed hash of your IP address, not the address itself. It exists so rate limits and duplicate detection can tell that two writes came from the same origin. We cannot turn it back into an address, and nothing displays it.

If you subscribe to Pro. Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We store a Stripe customer reference and your subscription status so we know whether your account is active.

Your location

If you allow it, your browser gives us your approximate location so we can show cafes near you and sort them by distance. Your browser asks first, and you can refuse or revoke it at any time in your browser settings.

We use your location to answer the request you just made. We do not store a history of where you have been, and there is no table in our database that records your coordinates over time.

Cookies and analytics

We set cookies to keep you signed in. Those are necessary for the site to work and there is no way to opt out of them and stay signed in.

We use Google Analytics to count page views and a small number of product events, such as opening a cafe or starting a price submission. We use it to see which parts of the site get used, not to build a profile of you, and we do not connect it to third-party advertising.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of services to run the site, and each one sees only what its job needs:

  • Supabase stores our database and handles sign-in.
  • Vercel and Railway host the site and the API.
  • Google provides maps, place data and analytics.
  • Stripe processes payments, if you subscribe.
  • Resend and Loops send email, if you have given us an address.

Some of these store data outside Australia. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

Account data stays until you ask us to delete it. Prices and the price history stay indefinitely, because a price record is the product and its value comes from being able to look back.

Hashed IP addresses are only useful for as long as the rate limit and duplicate-detection windows they serve, which are measured in hours. We remove them after that.

A price you submitted is not personal to a reader: it shows as a price at a cafe with a date, not as something attributed to you by name. If you appear on the contributor leaderboard you can opt out of it in your account settings.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and the data attached to it. Email hey@coffeenearme.au and we will action it.

One honest limit: if you have submitted prices, deleting your account removes the link between you and them, but the prices themselves stay. Other people rely on them, and pulling them out would damage the record for everyone. If you want a specific price removed rather than unlinked, ask and tell us which.

If you are a cafe owner and want to talk about your venue's data, that is covered on the methodology page, which explains corrections and opt-out.

Children

Coffee Near Me is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this page

When what we collect changes, this page changes in the same release, and the date at the top moves. There is no separate archive: the date is the version.
